Imagine a world where foster families are fully supported and respected. This is exactly what the Association démocratique des ressources à l’enfance du Québec (ADREQ CSD) strives to achieve.
Who Are We?
ADREQ CSD, affiliated with the Centrale des Syndicats Démocratiques, is composed of dedicated foster families. We represent our members to institutions to ensure the collective agreement is respected and to secure fair and equitable working conditions.
Our Impact
As part of the CSD’s resource sector, ADREQ CSD brings together more than 3,155 resources, making it a major player in supporting foster families in Quebec. In collaboration with the Centrale des Syndicats Nationaux (CSN) for the Alliance negotiations with the government, we represent 5,486 resources in 13 regions, accounting for over 60% of family-type resources (RTF).
Our Achievements
The CSD was the first union to lead legal battles for the rights of foster families. Thanks to our determination, we obtained the right to form an association in 2009 after decades of struggle. We also challenged the Law on the Representation of Resources, allowing foster families to negotiate their conditions with real bargaining power.
Our Current Demands We are currently negotiating to:
- Improve the rules surrounding visits from biological parents
- Protect foster families from harassment
- Open respite care places or provide monetary compensation for replacements
- Bridge the financial gap with other resources, where the income per user is higher by $4,500 to $18,300 per year compared to that of foster families
- Protect purchasing power against inflation and rising living costs, especially with the surge in grocery prices and mortgage rates
Our Activities
Throughout the year, we organize numerous activities to strengthen the bonds among our members and support our community:
- Breakfasts to share your experiences with other foster families
- Christmas tree decorating
- Annual gala
Our Training Services
We also support our members with training on the classification instrument and during its revision, ensuring a proper understanding and application of standards and practices.
